I always wanted to have this lucky nekko (nekko is Japanese for cat). My mother has got a huge one which is standing in her corridor. I think she brought it from Japan years ago. When I went to visit her recently she gave me one as a gift. I love it. And this Japanese little pillow she’s sitting on. Precious. She is supposed to bring me luck – and money. 🙂
The German equivalent is this frog. I actually don’t know why the Germans are heavily into the Frog King (you know the brothers Grimm’s fairy-tale?) at the moment. You see this little green thing with its crown sitting everywhere. I had to take one with me (oh my – my mother and I bought so many things when I was in Germany. My suitcase weighed quite a bit.)
P.S. Just in case you don’t know the Frog King’s tale: There is this princess who kisses the ugly disgusting frog to get her golden ball back – and the frog turns into a beauuuutiful prince.
