Just sayin…

How good are these cufflinks? I discovered them on coolhunting.com, and you can get them here. What a cool gift for approx. USD 19,00, isn’t it? (Image via coolhunting.com)

I’ve been extremely lazy these days. A fact that I blame on the weather. I could deal with the heat (44 degrees Celsius today) if it wasn’t so freakin humid. Only the thought of having to spend one minute in this humidity (for example when parking your car and walking quickly to the shopping mall entrance) makes me want to stay at home. How am I supposed to get a tan in this weather?

And the cats… You have no clue what 44 degrees and humidity mean, when you’re a cat sitting in a 22 degrees chilled room. Our two cats however desperately wanted to have a stroll through the garden today, and they wouldn’t stop nagging until we opened the door to the terrace. Once they had set a paw on the hot terrace floor they stopped and stared at us like we had hit them. Unfortunately, they still want to be outside (they hide under the garden furniture or under our little trees – our garden is still only one year old), and I have to watch and take care that they don’t stay in the heat for too long. Sometimes they stay for a couple of hours until they feel like having a sip of water or a little treat, which means, that I also have to sit and watch for a couple of hours (sometimes from the window, sometimes outside). You may say that this is stupid. Yes, you’re right. But if this is the only way to keep the kittens happy and my mind at rest… then shall it be.

The weather lets me forget how beautiful the city can be sometimes. Good thing that we always have tourists, friends or (like in this case) interns, who remind us how good Dubai can be. Last week our intern Ellen went back home. She took these pictures of Dubai…

What a shame that the summer heat often makes me forget how beautiful it can be here.

  2. wow! Lego cufflinks! they remind me of my childhood!
I want to come in Dubai one day, but summer is unbearable! Most people I know have visited Dubai in autumn, because it’s way warmer than Europe!

  3. I’ve seen those cufflinks – too cute! As for the heat, I know I’d have issues with it too. When I lived in Hong Kong, I thought 35 degrees and 98% humidity was bad enough (and I actually played sports outdoor in those temperatures). I then went to Egypt in August for a few years in a row and the only way I survived that, was that I spent most of my time underwater scuba diving. Must be really tough for animals who need a bit of outdoors though. I feel bad for them.

Gorgeous images of Dubai! I hope to go one day.

  4. I want to come to meet youuuu (in winter LOL)
It’s true, it’s very beautiful, (the contrast between the sea and desert pictures… wow!) but I could never ever live there… Today in Gent it was 30 degrees and sunny and I felt like I was melting (I’m already worried for when I’ll go to Italy in two weeks :/ ) Serioulsy, how can you bear it? I think you’re a lizard XD

    The cufflinks? Genius!

    Have a super (chilly) Sunday!

    many kisses

    Al

PS: did you make pasta in the end?

  5. The poor cat – must be unbearable for a cat in that heat. Animals love the be out of doors and not house bound in an air conditioning room. lol.
Your images are fabulous though – I guess this is the brighter side of Dubai;-)

    • yep, it makes me sad that we can’t let the cats run outside all day long.

  6. Oh dear, these are tough temperatures, even for cats. The Dubai pictures are really beautiful and show what a varied city it is. Hope it gets a bit bearable soon.

    Great find, the cufflinks!

  13. These photos are just AMAZING!! They have me reminiscing about Dubai like CRAZY!! I was there this time exactly a year ago for three weeks and I know all too well the weather you’re speaking of. I walked from old town through the Dubai Mall to visit my friend for lunch and arrived with my shirt soaked through completely!! HOW EMBARRASSING, oh well I think the workers liked it lol.

    • from old town to dubai mall – meagan! this is crazy! 😀 absolutely. i’m also wondering how you actually got there – with no footways and all the construction sites etc. hahaha, amazing. and yep, i bet the workers looooved your shirt. 🙂

  15. It wasn’t old town by the creek but old town (Al Manzil hotel) directly across from Burj Khalifa so otherwise a 20 min walk to the financial area complex like HSBC etc. But still you’re right, it was nuts in that heat, especially because there are no sidewalks haha. I remember it like it was yesterday too funny!!
